That's a really good one, and it relates to EVERYONE. Worldly matters doesn't mean just money, or living rich, or having awesome gadgets and all that stuff. It also means being too engrossed in homework or TV or trying to make enough money to feed your family. So it can mean more than just negative things.
It is understandable to worry about worldly matters; after all, who doesn't? It's really easy to get caught up in the day to day life with this party and that stressful work and more. But we should do all that we can to keep it to a minimum.

I'm pretty sure it gets a LOT of people, Sami.
It's an easy trap to fall into because we all love to laugh at jokes, corny or cheesy or whatever they are.
But EXCESSIVE laughter is the problem. Like just laughing and laughing and laughing, wiping some tears of joy, stopping because you've finally got over it, and then laughing and laughing and laughing some more until you're done laughing, and then you look at the time and see that 5 minutes have gone by. So you've wasted 5 minutes of your life LAUGHING.
And then are those useless arguments. Either you're the person who's wrong, and you REALIZE it, but you don't want to admit, so you just keep on arguing and wasting more minutes of your life. OR, you're the RIGHT person, and the other person s done, but you just have to rub it in their face, so you keep on going and explaining when really, you're not helping anyone and just wasting time.

Sarah is right. When it comes to laughing as humans we tend to do it often because of the happy feeling that comes with it.
We also tend to leans towards doing it excessively because as humans we want happiness to fill up our lives and don't ever want to feel sadness. However, sadness is a part of life and everyone will taste it at some point in their life.
Furthermore, with that sometimes we need to realize that when we try to fill that void, the only thing that can truly fill it is our love for Allah (swt). And, one way to feel closer to Him is prayer, which you need kushoo to actually feel it.
So you see? All of those points are connected and too much laughter can hurt you, and with that we must be conscious of our actions and why we do them.

i chose # 6 because it really applies to me and will help me a lot.
6- Stop working as soon as you hear the Azaan. When you listen attentively to the call of Salaat repeat after the muˆz-zin then offer the relevant supplication. This prepares you for a smooth transition from the business with worldly matters to the business with Salaat.
this means that the second you hear the azan, you should stop everything, drop everything and repeat after the azan. this will help me b/c i sometimes say "i'll pray after this episode is over." and then 3 episodes later the azan for the next prayer goes off and i have missed that prayer, which is a terrible sin.
if i stop everything and pray as soon as the time comes i am positive i will have more khushoo because i wont be thinking, "Amina, you have 2 min left!" so i wont have to rush and i can have as long as i want to pray the salah.

GREAT TIP AMINA.. This can probably be applied to almost every praying Muslim on the face of this earth. One of the most frequent lies we probably utter would be:
Let me just finish one more episode, or let me just read one more page....
this leads us to the direction of missing our Salah overall. We should stop working right at the athan because it gives us more time.. and since you volunteered to it, you will have more focus and passion. If it was the last 5 minutes of your prayer time, Im pretty sure you would kind of not want to pray because if you left all that potential prayer time go to...other activity...then the thought in your head is just that you need to rush the prayer so you can make the time slot. I honestly really need to work on this too.

One thing that I took note of was to minimize worldly matters. This will really purify my khushu before salah, because all you need to think about is Allah (swt). If you maintain good khushu before salah, you will have good khushu in salah. However after salah, I will try to stay connected, because this is one of the opportunities in the day to ask Allah (swt) for forgiveness and praise him. InshAllah I perfect my prayer, because the truth is that my prayers aren't perfect. So taking steps to lead to that will benefit me, and InshAllah everyone and I don't hesitate to answer something good, on the Day of Judgement. AMEEN!

I totally agree with you Salma! Sometimes there are only 10 minutes left to pray, or if the Imam is going too fast for you in Jama'ah you just rush through everything and don't focus on the meaning. We should really try to slow down and reflect on what we are saying, because many times in the Prophet (SAW)'s life, people converted to Islam and their hearts were softened because of the powerful meaning of the Qur'an. Even if there are only 10 minutes left, a way to solve that is to fit your schedule around Salaat and pray it right when the time comes in so you can take as long as you want to reflect on its meaning.

I chose this because sometimes we forget that life is short and it could end anytime. Not everybody dies old and wrinkly so we should act as if it is our last prayer. Allah is more important and even though at the time, what we were doing before may seem more important...in the long run we have to realize that this is life...and it will be gone one day. This is what I have to work on because sometimes I may get caught up, but I try to remember that Allah is more important, and He will always be.

I chose,
B2; To remember that we could be praying our last prayer, and it may not sound really powerful, but it could be your last conversation with Allah(swt) and you can leave this world with a really good salat or one that does not help gain khusua.
If you really think about it, you will have a last prayer no matter what(that is if you even pray) and you can have one with all the concentration and full salat, or you would leave this world with a insincere prayer.
This really helps me because it really reminds me to contemplate and try my best to make the best out of my prayer.
Sometimes it helps to think as the Kaaba in front of you, the angel of death behind you, the angel that writes your good deed on your right, and the angel that writes your bad deeds on your left, and beneath you is the thin bridge that you have to cross to get to paradise.Which is thinner than a strand of hair and sharper than knifes.

Your points are very valid Layla, and you reminded me of a few things. We need to always remind ourselves of this point because death is something everyone will touch. You can be a king, a president, a young child, but it will touch you and when you do that's it. So if one does die during their salah it would have been horrible for them to have died without having kushoo in their prayer. And I think we all have trouble with this concept and trying to fully comprehend it. Although that may be hard to understand we need to try harder and come to terms with it.

Reading the many actions or mindsets we should have to perfect our Salah, the one that really stood out to me was #1 (During Salah): The Iqaamah itself is a final signal to the mind to be well prepared for preforming the actual Salaat. Remember what the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Bilal (RA) "Let us enjoy the comfort of the Salaat."
I chose this tip because many people nowadays are annoyed to leave their video game or movie to pray for only 5 minutes, but instead we should be happy to pray and feel a sense of peace that we are actually talking with our Lord, the One who created us and allowed us to actually HAVE that movie or game. The least we can do is appreciate that and thank Him so that He can give us more. This is a lesson I need to work on in my Salaat, as well as having the proper khushuu' and mindset right from when the Iqaamah is called.

I think that the most easiest thing to do would be to read Quran more consistently so I plan to do that. But, not that alone I plan to Insha Allah start with that and then do the more harder parts of trying to have a good kushoo. Another reason I plan to do it Insha Allah is because it softens as well as moistens your heart, and I think everyone needs a sense of renewal. Not on an every once in a while basis, but on an every day basis. I also plan on deattaching myself from worldly matters, which seems like a mild task to complete and Insha Allah I will be able to accomplish. One of the hardest things for me to do on there is probably to stop excessively laughing, and for people who know me well know I do it a lot. I hope that I can tone it done a notch Insha Allah, but I definitely know that that one will be a bit of a challenge to do. However, if I make an effort to accomplish it Insha Allah, Allah (swt) will be by my side and help me on the steps to having a complete kushoo Insha Allah.

I chose the one where it says to avoid excessive laughter and useless arguements as they harden the heart and lead to heedlessness. So I do know that excessive laughter isn't really my problem most of the time because I try to not laugh when I am about to face our God, Allah ( swt). The problem here with me is the useless arguments, these are the kind of things I almost never stopping doing when I have the time. I do it in all kinds of places. The place where I mostly get into these kinds of arguements are when I am playing online with people who I shouldn't be playing with, what I do is get into arguements/ fights because of the fact that they made me loose. These are the types of arguements that people like you and me need to avoid, because they can get us into trouble and also waste time. Allah (swt) put us on this dunya to pray and worship to Him and no one else but Him, so these arguements and excessive laughter are stuff that we can and should avoid. Salam.

I picked this one because often times during salah, people start looking right and left and this is what causes them t be distracted. This shows that they don't have khusu in their salah. This is something that is really hard to perfect, but if you continue practicing this, it will become easier. I chose this tip because we can all easily get involved in worldly matters. We shouldn't get too comfortable in this world because the in the morning halaqa we learned that we have to be in this world like travelers and act like strangers because this world is temporary. It doesn't last forever. We were made by Allah and sent to this world and to him we also return. So keeping in mind of the things in the afterlife whether its the sweetness of Al-Kawther in paradise or the boiling water in the bottomless pit of Hell-Fire, can keep us riding on the straight path.

b. You are standing between the hands of Allah, the Lord of the

c. The angel of death is chasing you.
I chose all of these because 1.if you remeber that this is the last salah in your life (or pretend that it is) you will always try to have the utmost khushu in your salah. Also 2 if you remeber that your are standing before allah you will try humbling and lowering yourself. 3 if you pretend that the angel of death is chasing you you will also pray like it is your last prayer and you will pray because you are afraid that he will come for you. I cannot stress upon how much I try and want to improve this in my Salah. Sometimes I rush through my Salah so that I can get it over with, or not feel guilty that I didn't pray, and feel content with just doing the motions. This is a wrongdoing of mine, because like the tip said: how can you be busy with something else? I don't pray the minute right after the athan, ok. But occasionally I pray considerably late after the athan... to the point where I missed the Salah time slot. I try to keep this in my mind: this might be my last time praying... if it was your last moments on earth (and you knew it), and you were about to make THE LAST prayer of your life to your creator, your sustainer, the one you are about to go back to, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't mess up or go off daydreaming or rush through it. It's not just another silly thing to remember just to get back on track.. it's pretty darn real because we honestly don't know if we will live for the next year, month, week, or even the next 5 minutes of our life. This is just one tip of the many I try to use to enhance my prayers.

I will try to focus on 4- Minimize attachment to worldly matters mainly because if I get to attached to worldly matters then my Salah may get weaker and my faith in Islam will lessen. However, if I get less attached to worldly matters then it will be easier to pray and my Faith, Iman, and Ihsan will Inshallah get stronger.

I chose Avoid excessive laughter and useless arguments as they harden the heart and lead to heedlessness. I think this will help me become better in my Salah because I laugh a lot! Excessive laughter especially in the Masjid is a waste of your time in the Masjid and is useless. In addition useless arguments just cause hatered between your brothers and sisters in Islam. These cause hardening of the heart and hardening of the heart makes loving Allah difficult.

Me too! I laugh a lot and i try to hold it. It is a waste of time and makes you lose concentration in prayer.

One thing that I will try to improve to have Khusu in salah is to avoid committing sins because I commit sins every day without realizing it. For example, I constantly fight with my siblings. Inshallah I will try to get rid of the habit of committing sins.

The tip I chose from the document was 4- Minimize attachment to worldly matters. Gearing one’s
intentions towards the Afterlife helps against the temptations of life.
I need to try to stay away from the worldly possesions of this life, because then you wont think about anything else. This also relates to the morning halaqah hadith (Be in this world as thought you are a traveler) because our main long-term goal is going to Jannah. Inshallah, using this tip I will strengthen my khoshoo in prayer.

4- Keep your eyes focused on the place of sujuud. This helps you
gain more concentration
I chose this one because i notice a lot of people who always look around in prayer to see whos coming in, or other things. This makes you forget about everything you are doing in prayer. If you look straight to the place you make sujood, it will be much easier to focus in salah. Thats why we should aways try to ingore other things that can make us lose focus.

6- Stop working as soon as you hear the Azaan. When you listen attentively to the call of Salaat repeat after the muˆz-zin then offer the relevant supplication. This prepares you for a smooth transition from the business with worldly matters to the business with Salaat.
I chose this one because if the azaan is called we need to leave everything that we are doing and pray! This is a struggle for a lot of people because we think that what we are doing is more important than salah which is a horrible sin.
The tip that I find helpful was number 2 where you do a pre-prayer sort of thing is because if you already did a prayer then you are in that mental state of peace and concentration so you are ready to pray to Allah (SWT)

I would choose tip number 1, a Muslim should know his Lord very well. Knowing whom one worships makes a person a better worshiper. Having clear and authentic knowledge about Allah increases His love in our hearts.Consequently, faith also increases. This means that we should know who we worship. we shouldn't blindly follow someone who might bring harm. Allah, of course, won't bring us harm, but we should know about Him, and when we know about Him, we would know why we should worship Him.

One tip I can learn from is to make Wudu with fear of Allah. Ali RA use to shake while making wudu. He said wouldn't anyone be scared when going to meet the one who created him?

This is not too hard and I think it will help me if I read the hadiths and quran so that I may be closer to Allah.

I chose #4 because when we work for our akhirah, it will actually help us in the next life. Also, many of us (including me) are always striving for achievements in this world and trying to get the best of this world. but working for the next life will always help us.
But one should always work for this world as well because Allah told us that we should get knowledge and succeed in this life rather than living in a forest for your whole life praying and not taking care of yourself. Instead, Allah told us to be balanced.
Because when we are balanced, we always have a true meaning to life and Allah will also be happy with us.

What i. Ould do to make my salah accepted is to stay focused during my prayer, take my time, have fear of Allah and be humble when doing it as well as when you are doing wudu

One thing that I will work on to enhance my prayer is to try to forget about everything in this life and focus on Allah SWT. The reason I chose this is because often times we might be playing outside, and it is time for prayer, and our minds are focused somewhere else.

I chose avoiding excessive laughter. I am a person who laughs A LOT, even for no reason. It breaks my line of thought. in prayer, shaytan always tryes to bring us off the kushu by putting thought in our head. I will try to stop the useless laugh and thoughts by saying la ilaha ilalah to drive shaytan away.

ASAK, i chose trying to think of it as our last prayer. Even thought its hard to think about, when death comes we want to be prepared! Salah is why we were made! So remembering that this could be my last chance is very helpful for me!

MY favorite tip is not reading the same surah every time, if you read the same surah every time you wont realize the meaning any more, reading something different every time gives each of your prayers a different feeling.
